Ryan's family has produced a Christmas concert with carols played from a steam whistle at New York Wire Company since 1955. In 2013 the venue changed to Metso Company and the whistle is now powered by compressed air. Ryan gives the presentations as a public service and to raise money for expenses related to the concert.   • The Penn State Thon's first canister solicitation weekend began Saturday and students scattered through the state to raise money to fight childhood cancer, including at Forrest Avenue and Main Street in Shrewsbury. Canister solicitation, also known as canning, is one way the Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon (THON) raises funds.
